Echo of Tristram

(Uber Tristram)

Season 15 brings back the Pandemonium Event. Diablo, Baal and Mephisto in one arena, behind a red portal you open with a coin in Tristram’s fountain.

What it is

There’s a hidden level called Echo of Tristram (Uber Tristram) off the Season 15 Tristram. The quest for it is “No prayer reaches this place.” Enter the center of Tristram, slay the Prime Evils, come back. The Echo of Diablo, the Echo of Baal and the Echo of Mephisto are all in the arena at once, and the fight starts when you walk into the middle.

The seasonal reputation caches drop them as well. Farm them on Torment X or higher. (It automatically sets the dungeon to Torment X with Monster Power +30, which would be equivalent to Torment XIII if it existed.) You can only carry one of each. The files put that gate at Torment 10 by the game’s own numbering, but they drop lower than that. Torment 7 is where I got mine.

When one drops it lands in the Consumables tab next to the elixirs, as a Unique Consumable you can’t salvage or sell, or even put it in your stash. Using it swaps your pledge to that evil, and the game won’t let you use the one you’re already on. You don’t have to use them at all, and nothing stops you holding all three. Mine sat in the consumables tab for a while before I noticed it.

WARNING! There is no confirmation box for switching prime evil powers if you click a Splinter. Be careful not to click one if you do not intend to switch.

Open the way to Old Tristram

Tristram is its own zone this season. You get in through the Deckard’s Memory portal in the Imperial Library in Caldeum, right by the waypoint, and that portal doesn’t exist until you’ve done Deckard’s Journey. That quest isn’t part of the main story and nothing points you at it. Once the tavern intro in Tarsarak is done, ten Deckard’s Journal satchels are out in the world (an open satchel with a scroll in it). Read all ten (and enjoy some really cool lore snippets), the quest starts by itself, Deckard shows you one last memory, and that memory is the portal to the Diablo 1 version of Tristram. It stays open after.

62m SW of the Gea Kul waypoint, or 207m NW of Kurast Docks.

Part 1: the sea crossing: “I only pray we reach Gea Kul intact.”

So many great tales begin with a voyage across the sea. Vasily’s Passage, the Crusade of Rakkis... None truly captured the way one’s stomach can heave with every pitch of the waves.

Oh, Amelia... Would it please you that I left my study at last to see the world outside? Or would you resent me for waiting until you and our boy had passed?

Writing is not helping. I only pray we reach Gea Kul intact. Solid ground, fresh air, and soon...a magnificent, dry library.

Part 2: the library doors open at the name Cain; Jered’s “vault of dangerous wonders”.

Since coming ashore, I had been anxious to apply for access to the Imperial Library. Few indeed are accepted, so imagine my surprise when their doors opened wide...the moment I uttered the name, “Cain.”

It seems that even after two hundred years, Jered Cain and his Horadrim still hold sway here. A good sign, considering I aim to find the truth of their tales...and perhaps my place in them.

Jered often wrote of a “vault of dangerous wonders” hidden in the Shassar Sea. Thanks to these topographic maps, I may know just where to look.

Part 3: hours in the scorching sand, a Vecin wagon train on the next dune.

(sighs) We have wandered this scorching hell for hours, yet I can find no sign of this “vault.” My guide is ready to drag me back to Caldeum. To pack it in and go back to my country, but I cannot. There is nothing for me there.

We spied a wagon train on the next dune. I believe they might be Vecin—wandering mystics, featured in many of Jered’s tales. Some of my favorites, in fact.

My guide says they ride East to “peddle their witchcraft" to the swampfolk. I will see for myself.

Part 4: the Zakarum Inquisition has descended; “Perhaps North?”

Oh, what a time the Vecin showed me. Singing by the cookfire, tales of magic beneath the stars...but a grave silence awaited us in Wejinhani.

The Zakarum Inquisition has descended upon this land. And the arrival of a haggard, western scholar has raised eyebrows. I had best move on before I complicate matters for my new friends, though my heart aches to do so.

(sighs) I need to think. Somewhere quiet and alone, where I can decide what I am still doing on this misadventure. Perhaps North?

Part 5: “Thank the Heavens I found this cabin, or I might have frozen stiff.”

(shivers) Thank the Heavens I found this cabin, or I might have frozen stiff. Only now that I’ve thawed, I am reminded why I left Tristram. Sitting alone in my study, ears ringing in the silence you left behind.

I still hear your voice, Amelia. Begging me to put down my books and be a husband, a father, but now... What am I meant to be now?

I have come to doubt Jered's writings hold the answer, but I have no better guide. He speaks of a grand city of the grasses, old as Old Kehjan. With any luck, there will be a tavern.

Part 6: a wedding in “Goolron? Gu-Gulran?”, a crown of wheat, Vasily.

I found a tavern! Got myself swept into some sort of wedding here in...Goolron? Gu-Gulran? Oh, such a lively place, I must learn how to spell it!

The moment these folk saw me, they placed a crown of wheat on my head and pulled me in off the street. (chuckles) Seems that they don’t get too many westerners, so I’m something of a celebrity!

They sat me down beside another foreign fellow. Big bear of a man called “Vasily.” I cheekily asked if he was the ancient father of the Druids, and he laughed himself pink! (laughs)

Oh dear, he’s shouting at me to shut my damn book! Wants to show me how to drink like a “true sailor of the ‘Glen.” Very well then! Ahem— For Tristram! (chuckles)

    Scosglen

80m SW of the Marowen waypoint, or 480m W of Braestaig.

Part 7: waking to waves on a stony shore, in Vasily’s home.

I awoke convinced I had thunder in my skull until I saw the waves, crashing upon a stony shore. It seems I fell into my cups and emerged in Scosglen...in a strange bed in a strange home.

Cautiously, I stepped from the room and spied my friend Vasily, sitting with his wife at table. My embarrassment vanished when they turned to me. Hopeful looks on their faces.

They tell me the sacred barrow of their ancestors has been “touched by the infernal.” They say that this is why children have gone missing. Including their own son.

Apparently while drunk, I named myself a “scholar of the occult” and promised my help. I only pray that I can.

Part 8: Druid elders “amidst the stones”, Triune glyphs, “Fiefdom House”.

We arrived amidst the stones to find a gathering of Druid elders knelt round a grotesque scene. Bones and dismembered corpses, arranged in a circle of crude symbols. Triune glyphs.

I knew them from Jered’s “Hunt for the Three.” A summoning ritual. First the ancient dead are defiled, then “vessels” are made of the young.

It is said the ritual calls for fertile soil and a private place to work undisturbed. I asked Vasily where such might be. “Fiefdom House,” he said.

I pray we find those children alive. And nothing else besides.

Part 9: the chapel, the cultists, six children found safe. Placed only in a public game.

They saw us coming. Mad cultists in filthy rags flung themselves at our party, only to be crushed under the furious blows of the Druids. I looked one in the eyes as he died. Not a demon. Only a man.

Then out of the silence, we heard crying. Six children—frightened but safe inside the chapel. When Vasily wrapped his son in his arms, I turned to hide my tears. I had saved this boy, but it could not change the fact that I had failed my own.

I felt a great paw on my shoulder, then met the smiling eyes of a Druid. “You are Deckard Cain. Descendent of Jered Cain.” she said. “Our ancestors are grateful to you. They say to seek yours in the Mistral Woods.”

97m NW of the Yelesna waypoint, or 204m SW of the Lord Zir lair entrance.

Part 10: the murky wood and the three-faced statue: “Behold the truths that lie within.”

(chuckles) Ohh, it is high time I admitted that I am a poor adventurer. I have roamed this murky wood for hours, and my only clue? That damned three-faced statue.

“Behold the truths that lie within,” the inscription said. Are those your words, Jered? Telling me I had the answer all along? That my own selfishness pushed my family away? That alone...I am lost.

I have been lost since before I left Tristram. Found at last for a wonderful moment when I put down my nonsense and made myself useful to others.

It has been good traveling with you, Jered. But I believe it is time I went home, to the people I have left, and made myself useful there.

The Prime Evils

Walk to the center of Tristram and the fight starts. All three at once. You already fought each of them alone in the story: Diablo at the bottom of the Labyrinth, Baal at the Worldstone, Mephisto in the Durance of Hate under the Blackened Temple.

Baal’s lightning and his tentacles work separately, so both are going while the other two are on you. Mephisto fights in three phases. Diablo is the council version of the Labyrinth boss. All three can be staggered.

The council’s loot is on a one hour cooldown. Killing them again inside that window drops nothing and resets the timer, so wait the full hour if you want the loot.
